Carbon Footprint

Skylight International is aiming to do as much as it can to protect the environment.

We have a policy of recycling as much waste as possible and have installed various recycling methods within the company such as having  wood burning stoves as a way of heating our factory and our gallery. We also have a policy of using scrap paper for internal use, and have implemented a ban on the use of plastic cups.

Laura graduated from The Carbon Trust’s , Carbon Management Programme, in 2013.

As another way of helping with our carbon footprint, Skylight International have 3 of our company cars as the eco-friendly Toyota Prius. We also encourage car sharing by our staff, reducing the amount of fuel they use.

The Forest Stewardship Council

The Forest Stewardship Council A.C. (FSC) promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests.

Environmentally appropriate forest management ensures that the harvest of timber and non-timber products maintains the forest’s biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes.

Socially beneficial forest management helps both local people and society at large to enjoy long term benefits and also provides strong incentives to local people to sustain the forest resources and adhere to long-term management plans.

Economically viable forest management means that forest operations are structured and managed so as to be sufficiently profitable, without generating financial profit at the expense of the forest resource, the ecosystem, or affected communities. The tension between the need to generate adequate financial returns and the principles of responsible
forest operations can be reduced through efforts to market the full range of forest products and services for their best value.

How do we support FSC?

We support FSC by making regular donations and by buying wood with FSC label where possible.

We support CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association Scotland) by recycling all of our used printer ink cartridges and mobile phones. You can join in helping CHAS to raise over £7million needed annually to provide their hospice services by recycling iPods, DVDs, digital cameras, games consoles, ink cartridges and mobile phones.
